Researcher for Natural Language Understanding, Speech and Dialogue Management

Position Summary:

The successful candidate will have a keen interest on both practical and fundamental research on natural language understanding, robust speech recognition and dialogue management especially with regard to its integration into semantic recognitions in language. The focus is to study and design novel data driven approaches to enhance language understanding and learning user intent in voice-based systems. The candidate will be a part of an interdisciplinary research team. Implementation skills and the ability to create early-stage prototypes are also desirable.


Common Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement novel data driven algorithms on natural language understanding, robust speech recognition and intention prediction for dialogue management
  • Contribute to the research activities of our team; participate and lead some of the research efforts
  • Formulate research problems based on real-world needs and independently conduct high-quality research
  • Generate creative solutions (patents) and publish research results in top conferences (papers)


Background / Experience:

Expertise in one or more of the following areas:

  • Expertise in data driven technologies on natural language understanding (word embedding, intent classifier, slot tagging, paraphrases), robust speech recognition (accent, noisy) and dialogue management (policy, natural language generation )
  • Expertise in text mining and language processing (probabilistic topic model, word association mining, ontology learning, opinion mining and sentiment analysis, semantic similarity, etc.)
  • Experience using deep learning on NLU/NLG/ASR is required
  • Proficiency in a neural network library (e.g., TensorFlow,Theano,Torch…) and Kaldi  is a plus
  • Ph.D. in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related field is required
  • Proven track record of research/publications on machine learning and artificial intelligence field (ACL, EMNLP, NAACL, INTERSPEECH, ICASSP)

Excellent communication skills and willingness to work with an international team to deliver rapid prototypes
