18' Spring Data Science PhD Intern-SAMSUNG Pay

The Data Science Team focuses on the research and development of data algorithms, models, platforms and frameworks for multiple Samsung services with an emphasis on Samsung Pay, the world’s most widely accepted mobile payment service. The team’s research areas include personalized recommendation, deep learning with applications on NLP, user profiling and data-driven user growth strategies. This is an exciting and unique opportunity for a talented and hard-working data scientist who is interested in envisioning, prototyping and implementing cutting-edge products with a growing team. Publications and patents are expected as outputs of an internship.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Explore cutting-edge technologies for our products
  • Design and develop data mining/machine learning algorithms for real-world products
  • Create quick prototypes and proof-of-concepts
  • Design experiments, perform evaluations, and apply enhancements to our products

Experience Requirements:

  • Solid background in data mining/machine learning
  • Hands-on experience of using data mining/machine learning algorithms in real-world applications
  • Proficiency in data structures and algorithms
  • Strong programming skills with Java/Python
  • Basic knowledge about RDBMS and NoSQL databases
  • Expertise in Linux (Ubuntu)
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Publications in relevant top venues (e.g., KDD, NIPS, ICML, AAAI, IJCAI, ICDM, etc.)
  • PhD students in Computer Science or relevant fields
  • Preferred Experience Requirements:
  • Basic knowledge about Amazon Web Services
  • Working knowledge of big data tools and data pipelines
