Researcher for Ambient Sensing and Intelligence

Position Summary:

Samsung Research America is located in Mountain View, California is currently looking for an addition to our Data Intelligence team in the area of ambient sensing and intelligence. Nowadays, sensors offer the potential to accurately measure the state of the world: they show us where we are inside and outside of buildings, create a comprehensive picture of our health through heart rate and pulse monitors, determine our activity level through motion capturing, and even determine how we feel through EEG brain sensing. To enable innovative applications through these sensors is a vital research area for many technology companies.

The successful candidate for this position will have a keen interest in ambient intelligence and application of novel sensing for diverse scenarios. Furthermore, the ideal candidate will contribute to our team’s research on practical and usable solutions for ambient data analysis (e.g., EEG, ECG, RF, ultrasonic, etc.) and will have experience in processing of noisy real-world signal data. The candidate will be a part of an interdisciplinary research team. Implementation skills and the ability to create early‐stage prototypes are also desirable.

Common Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to the research activities of our team; participate and lead some of the research efforts
  • Formulate research problems based on real‐world needs and independently conduct high‐quality research
  • Generate creative solutions (patents), build functional prototypes, and publish research results in top conferences (papers)

Background / Experience:
Expertise in one or more of the following areas:

  • Expert in digital signal processing, especially of noisy real-world data
  • Knowledge of data mining and pattern analysis using diverse data sets (e.g., EEG, ECG, Wi-Fi, audio, etc.)
  • Familiarity in collecting sensor data and designing of controlled experiments and data collections a strong plus
  • Proven track record of research/publications in digital signal processing, data mining, and general machine learning

Necessary Skills / Attributes:

  • Excellent communication skills and willingness to work with an international team to deliver rapid prototypes
  • Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related field
